Looking to upgrade my speakers and am considering B&W's (probably 600's as I'm not _currently_ intending to spending more than a couple of grand) but it doesn't seem to be possible to purchase these directly of the web. Is the a B&W policy or something? Do they fix the prices so that I'm unlikely to get them cheaper between dealers, in which case I'll just go to the closest, listen and buy if I like, or am I stuck having to do some leg work here?
Before anyone point it out, I know that the b&w sight gives prices, but unless they fix the prices at all dealers, thats next to useless.
Thanks,
John

John, i think that you are best going to your local dealer. From mine for just less than £2k i could have got a pair of 705s a HTM7 and a pair of DS7. The 7 series are much better than the 6 series.
Instead i went for a pair of 704s and a HTM7 all for £1,500 as i wanted floor standers.

John,
B&W don't allow their stuff to be sold online, and from what I hear are not too keen on discounting. Try Superfi if you can, they usually give goods deals on B&W, I bought my ASW675 from them a few months back for £580.
The Leeds branch I went to had the 600 series on demo, and while I can't remeber the prices, they were lower than what I paid, but I have had mine since they were launched.
Hope this helps,
J

I would seriously look at the 700 series. I moved from the 600 over to the 700 and there is a big improvement.

The B&W sight hasn't got pricing on the 700 series yet so I don't know how much I'd be spending on a full 7 speaker system (I don't need a new sub base)
I'd set myself a threshold of 2 grand, over which I'd decided I might as well go all out for 800's, which comes out at around 6K (ouch) with 803's for fronts or about 10K (double ouch!) for 802's (which I'd probably also need a couple of descrete amps to drive effectively). Fortunatly sanity has a strange habbit hiding my wallet whenever I start thinking about that route! Maybe the 700's would make finding it easier...
Cheers,
John.

John, know exactly what you mean i would love the 800 series but with the 700 as least you do get the so called trckle down technology and a better bank balance.
The prices should be on the site if you add the speakers to the comparison section.

Arr, yes it does work. Comes out at around 4K for 7 speakers (703 fronts, HTM7 centre, 705's on sides and rears). Only(!) 2K less that 800's (803's front, HTM1 center, 805's on sides and rears).
Will have to take a trip to my local dealer to see what they can do for me...

Recently purchased B&W 600 series (602s and 601 with a LCR60 for Centre) and I think I got a pretty good deal on it.
It cost me less than 1500 for the set with a REL Q150E sub to go with it (also included in the price are speaker nexus stands, gold plated banana plugs and cables).
THANKS to SEVENOAKS for all this though!

I have been looking for a retailer who will 'help' with the pricing, but they only seem to accomodate when you are buying stuff as well as the B&W. Otherwise there seems to be a feeling that retail is the price you pay.
