Travis
Class: Prince
The Prince of Abrein, who gets killed in a scouting mission, kickstarting a tragic chain of events that puts Irona into turmoil.
- Decoy Protagonist: He's set up as one of the lord characters, even having growths, alongside being with the local Crutch Character Donovan, and it seems to be a good idea to level him up, like any other starting lord. He's killed in the prologue not too long afterwards. It's recommended to give his Iron Lance to Donovan so that he has a decent non-overkill alternative to his Silver Lance.
- Sacrificial Lamb: He's killed off in the prologue to show how dangerous Caelia is.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: His only screentime is in the prologue. Most of his characterization comes from various support dialogues and later chapters.
Donovan
Class: Grand Paladin
The only survivor of the fateful scouting mission eleven years ago before the main events of the game took place, he acts as Aderyn's bodyguard for most of the game, and helps her throughout the journey.
- Age-Gap Romance: Has this with Aderyn if they support.
- Bodyguard Crush: Aside from protecting Aderyn, he can potentially marry Aderyn if they support with each other.
- Bow and Sword in Accord: Well, Bow, Sword and Lance in accord, but he can use Swords, Lances and Bows very well. Since he's the first bow-wielding unit and is mounted to boot, this makes him a viable option for bow using if Derrick, Tabitha, and Hestia isn't really into your tastes.
- Crutch Character: His class is essentially a pre-promoted unit with high bases. Fortunately, his growths are high enough to make him a viable Jack of All Stats by the endgame. Him having bows early on helps, especially in Reverse Mode.
- Survivor's Guilt: The death of Travis haunts him to the present day.
Aderyn
Class: Lord
The main protagonist of the game. Aderyn is a princess of Abrein and Travis' sister. She begins her journey when Duke Simon rebels against the empire. Leading a small band of troops, she fights to liberate her homeland.
- Combat Medic: Once she promotes, she can use both tomes and staves.
- Deadpan Snarker: During the War Room sessions, Aderyn is often exasperated by the guest characters, especially when they are from the enemy side.
- Light 'em Up: Her specialty is Light Magic.
- Magikarp Power: Initially, her Light Magic, while good at hitting poor Resistance has low might to compensate, and later on, her inability to promote early compared to other characters such as Penny and Ella may cause her to fall behind. However, once she gets her promotion item, she can easily handle armies on her own provided good support, and the Fire Emblem and Exordium allows her to deal decent damage to the final boss.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The one time she isn't sarcastic whenever the guest characters are from the enemy side is the appearance of the Black Dragoon, and that's because his true identity is her thought-to-be-dead brother Travis.
- Squishy Wizard: Her Power growth is decent and her Speed lets her double with ease, and while she starts out with just good enough Resistance to make up for a somewhat unstable 30% Resistance growth, her Defense is her lowest stat, and also shares the same growth rate as her Resistance growth. Using Dracoshields and Defense Relics can make up for this.
- You Killed My Brother: Aderyn holds a great grudge against the empire for their role in Travis' death. Once Caelia reveals herself as Travis' killer, Aderyn goes livid and comes dangerously close to Jumping Off the Slippery Slope.
Melinda
Class: Pegasus Knight
A Pegasus Knight of Abrein and a close friend of Aderyn.
- Fragile Speedster: As is typical of early Pegasus Knights, she has below average Power and Defense in exchange for blistering speed.
- Hint Dropping: In her B support with Aderyn, she first casually asks Aderyn about her love life. When Aderyn returns the question, Melinda cryptically says that she is attracted to someone but doesn't reveal who they are.
- Sibling Team: She is Leon's sister and joins at the same time as him. Since they are both solid combat units, it's not uncommon to have them fielded together for most of the game.
Leon
Class: Mercenary
Melinda's older brother, who is a mercenary hired by Duke Simon
- Calling the Old Man Out: If he fights his father Walter, he spares no word chewing his father out for abandoning the family.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: His primary weapon is a sword. He even has an option to promote into Hero.
- Jack of All Stats: Has overall well-balanced stats. He can become a Lightning Bruiser if he promotes.
- Sibling Team: He is Melinda's brother and joins at the same time as her. Since they are both solid combat units, it's not uncommon to have them fielded together for most of the game.
Jake
Class: Cavalier
Yes, that Jake. He, his wife Anna, and their bodyguard Teddy are hired into Aderyn's service to help fight the bandits.
- Item Caddy: Has Despoil, which gives him a Luck% chance to obtain a Red Gem after every kill.
Teddy
Class: Fighter
Anna and Jake's bodyguard, he came as a package deal when his employers were hired into Aderyn's service.
- Jack of All Stats: His bases are surprisingly balanced for a Fighter, and even with his growths leaning on HP and Strength, his Skill and Speed will likely grow just fine.
Penny
Class: Troubadour
A troubadour from Abrein. She warns Aderyn of a group of nearby bandits and assists in eradicating them.
- Disc-One Nuke: Due to the more generous EXP formula for healing, she'll easily be ready for promotion by the time you get your first few Master Seals, and will likely be your most potent mage until mid-late game thanks to her high Speed and mount (even compared to other potential early promotes).
- Fragile Speedster: Her Power and Defense are lacking compared to other potential magic users, but her Speed and Luck are outrageous, and her Knight Aspirant skill gives her an additional 15% avoid at high HP. Combine that with other avoid-increasing bonuses like terrain, supports, Aderyn's Charisma, and/or the Speed and Luck Relics, sword and bow users will barely break double digits in their hit rates, and most enemies will be lucky to have any chance of hitting her at all.
George
Class: Villager
A simple villager from Abrein who enlists in the army to show everyone how far his training has taken him.
- Experience Booster: Has the Paragon skill, which doubles his exp gain.
- Heroes Prefer Swords: He's basically a reskinned Mercenary, even down to his promotion options.
- Magikarp Power: He initially starts off worse than Leon, but if trained well, he can stand on his own very well.
Damian
Class: Mage
A boisterous, occasionally flirtatious mage from Abrein who has made a career out of hunting monsters.
- Fragile Speedster: Compared to Ella, he's considerably faster, and even if he's slightly bulkier, he's hardly a tank.
- Leeroy Jenkins: Him rushing into a group of monsters almost gets him and Kara killed until Aderyn shows up to rescue them.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Kara's Blue.
Kara
Class: Shaman
A shy, quiet dark mage from Abrein who travels alongside Damian exterminating monsters.
- Flying Broomstick: Was once the only character who could access the Witch class until Nia was added in a later update.
- Jack of All Stats: A well-rounded mage with equally impressive Magic and Speed, even if Darting Blow forces her to emphasize the latter slightly.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Damian's Red.
Derrick
Class: Archer
A confident archer from Abrein known for his extreme luck.
- Born Lucky: His character revolves around his extraordinary luck. His in-game luck stat is incredibly high to reflect this.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Rodrick.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to Rodrick's Blue.
Rodrick
Class: Knight
Derrick's travelling companion, being calmer and more collected than the archer.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Derrick.
- Mighty Glacier: Being the first knight recruited, Rodrick definitely fulfills this role early on.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Derrick's Red.
Nathaniel
Class: Myrmidon
A famous myrmidon from Irona seeking to end his long-lived career.
- Disc-One Nuke: One of the most capable combatants in the army when he joins, making him a good candidate for the first Master Seal.
- Famed in Story: He's famous among those who live in Abrein.
- Fragile Speedster: Par for the course due to being a myrmidon.
- Recurring Element: A myrmidon with a killing edge recruited from the enemy, similar to characters like Navarre or Rutger. However, he is less dour compared to them.
Lucas
Class: Cavalier
Prince and heir of the duchy of Norbury, and one of Aderyn's childhood friends. Has a younger sister, Ella.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Calls out his mother, Duchess Helga, for her foolish decision to side with the empire.
- Royals Who Actually Do Something: He's a prince of one of Irona's duchies, and he joins up with Aderyn rather early into the game.
- Sibling Team: With Ella after her recruitment in Chapter 8.
- Those Two Guys: With his retainer, Stephen.
Stephen
Class: Soldier
Lucas's retainer. Despite him being several years older and being a servant, he shares a close bond with his liege.
- Action Initiative: Has vantage as his personal skill.
- Jack of All Stats: His stats are well-rounded across the board except for resistance.
- Those Two Guys: With Lucas.
